. will the investigation put a dent into future sales? phil lebeau to answer that question for us at the auto show in los angeles. phil? >> hi, tyler. what's interesting is we're hearing a lot from elon musk on twitter today. we'll give you a taste of that in a little bit. let's focus on what this investigation regarding the model s is about. it's focusing on two battery fires here in the u.s. one last month just outside of seattle, washington, that's where this video is from, and another one earlier this month in tennessee. both of those fires are the focus of the investigation. by the way, nobody was hurt or killed in either of those fires, of which elon musk referenced on twitter today, he's been tweeting out about the fact that they are now the focus of an investigati investigation. he writes what makes this incredibly unjust is that the model s to date has the best safety record of any car on the road an then puts in parentheses, no injuries or deaths ever. it is still unclear whether this investigation will actually lead to a recall. it's not uncommon that they will do an investigation and then at

of it. back to you. >> scott, thank you very much. phil lebeau joins us with the ripple effects that this incident is likely and is already having on eyre travel, certainly in the western part of the united states. with a ground hold if you're in atlanta and bound for los angeles your plane doesn't leave. >> no, you're sitting there. interesting note here is take a look at those flights that are already in the los angeles area. they've been essentially as they're brought in there in a holding pattern. few flights have landed. it's a matter of how much fuel do you have before they say we can bring new here and land you, and then we're going to keep you parked to the side or if they have to move them over to let's say john wayne airport out in orange county or one of the other airports out there in california. keep in mind it wasn't just the terminal where there were evacuati evacuations. it was the others as well. yes there will likely be rescreenings taking place because the concern from the tsa is was this just an isolated incident or is this one incident part of something larg

. another fire in a model "s." cnbc's phil lebeau is following this story. hi, phil. >> reporter: hi, tyler. this is one that's still under investigation. we want to show you some pictures from the tennessee highway patrol. this is of the model "s" after the fire was extinguished. it happened yesterday, yesterday afternoon, in murfreesboro, tennessee. the driver, by the way, escaped this without any injury. the model "s" did not hit another car in this incident. instead is drove over a trailer hitch. that hitch that apparently punctured the battery compartment underneath the model "s." and again, the driver escaped without injury. this is the third model "s" fire in the last six weeks. remember there was one in suburban seattle, then one in mexico and now this one. tesla is sending investigators to tennessee to look into what's happened. what about the federal government? will it now investigate the model "s"? the ntsb says it will contact the local authorities who are looking into the incident to determine if there are vehicle safety implications that merit agency action. keep in mind, tes

base some 12 miles away. we expect it to take off any time now. phil lebeau has been following the story, and he joins us live from chicago. phil, first of all, how did this happen? and second of all, this is a much shorter strip than mcconnell has. how's this going to work? >> reporter: let's start first with taking off and the shorter runway. the runway at jabara airport is about 6,100 feet long. typically a 747 modified like this would have a ruppway of at least 9,100 feet, a 3,000-foot difference. they're not going to take off until all parties sign off. authorities say yes, we believe we have enough room for taking off. that's the takeoff we may see relatively soon. as for how it got here, the dreamlifter was carrying 787 dreamliner parts from italy, stopped in new york and was on its way to the facility in wichita, spirit air systems where it was going to be dropping off parts, picking up others. as the pilots were coming in on approach late last night, listen to the exchange between the dreamlifter pilot and the air traffic control tower. >> 4241 heavy, do you know which

. cnbc's phil lebeau joins us from chicago. three big stories that fall in your area, phil. first boeing soliciting bids for its new 77 x production site. who's in contention sp. >> it's too early to say any one location has an edge over others, although there are natural advantage certain locations have. here are a few of the cities we've confirmed independently as well talking with sources in the running for the landing the 777 x location. seattle, washington, because of the facilities there, long beach, salt lake city, huntsville, alabama, and the boeing facility in charleston. keep this in mind, boeing says it will not negotiate with the machinist union out there in seattle which is interesting because if they were to work out a deal at the last second, you wouldn't see anything develop, sue. but as it is right now boeing says it is moving forward and will make a decision some time early next year about a 777 location. i know that you asked the ceo about that last time you talked to him. very interesting. boeing advising airline about the risk of engine icing problems on the 747 and

. robert frank is here, phil lebeau is there. some of the states, folks, with the highest taxes also have the highest populations of millionaires. rob, you run the numbers on this. >> yeah. >> what did you find? >> big debate whether high taxes chase out the rich. i took a state by state millionaire count and overlaid the tax rates on those. some of the highest taxed states had the most growth in mull it ty millionaires, california number one in glowing multimillionaire population over the past year. the number one state on a percentage growth basis was massachusetts, that's also a pretty high taxed state and number one city for growing millionaires was new york city. with a 12 plus percent tax rate. so again, this could be despite the tax hikes in these places, not because of them. but basically this shows little correlation in how many millionaires a state can grow with the tax rates. >> really speaks, i guess, phil, more to the vibrancy of the economy. sometimes the sheer scale of the economy. i guess it should be no surprise that california would add the most. it's the biggest state a
